Metropolitan Park Tennis Courts in Tokyo

25 venues14 areas

Tokyo's metropolitan park courts are booked on the Spolec system, which is in Japanese only: a lottery the month before, then leftover slots first come, first served, and no same-day bookings at the park window. Visitors from outside Tokyo can register. These 25 venues in Tokyo follow that system.

Plan your visit

Can a visitor book a Tokyo metropolitan park tennis court, and what does it cost?

Yes, with some effort. The courts in Tokyo's metropolitan parks, run by the Bureau of Construction, the Port Bureau and the Sports Promotion Headquarters, are all booked on one system, Spolec, and the guide and the system are in Japanese. You must register first. Anyone of junior high school age or older can register, even with an address outside Tokyo, and each person can hold one account. Online registration needs a smartphone or tablet that receives SMS. Without one, register at the window of a metropolitan park with sports facilities, with ID. The registration card is valid for one year. To book, apply for the lottery from 00:00 on the 1st to 24:00 on the 10th of the month before the day of use (up to 2 applications per sport). If you win, confirm between the 14th and the 20th, or the win is void. Slots left over are first come, first served from the 22nd until the start time. There is no walk-on: the park window does not take same-day applications, so you must book in advance yourself. On the day, check in at the park window at least 15 minutes before the start with your registration card and your original ID, and pay the fee there unless you paid online by credit card beforehand. A My Number card, a driver's licence or other official ID is accepted, and so is a student ID. You can cancel tennis up to 4 days before the day of use. A no-show earns 2 penalty points and a late cancellation 1, and 2 points suspend your account for 30 days. Fees are per court per hour: ¥1,300 at the Bureau of Construction parks on any day; ¥1,500 on weekdays and ¥1,900 on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays at Oi Wharf Central Seaside Park; ¥1,500 and ¥1,800 for the outdoor courts at Ariake Tennis Forest Park, and ¥4,500 and ¥5,400 for its indoor courts. Lights cost ¥500 more per hour at the Bureau of Construction parks that have lights, at Oi Wharf and at the Ariake outdoor courts, once the lights go on in the late afternoon (the start time depends on the month). Ariake's own page also lists full lighting at ¥800 per hour. The fee table has no resident and non-resident split; the only discount is for Tokyo schools at school events. Opening hours differ by park and season, so check each venue's page.
