Do I need a permit to play tennis in New York City?

On NYC Parks courts, yes: a permit is needed to use an outdoor court from the first Saturday in April to the Sunday before Thanksgiving. A full-season permit costs $100 for adults 18 to 61 (10% off with IDNYC), $20 for seniors 62 and older, and $10 for players under 18. A single-play permit costs $15 for one hour on any court (two hours for doubles). Same-day permits are sold in person only, at a borough permit office; single-play permits are also sold at the Central Park, Prospect Park, Alley Pond Park and Randall's Island tennis centers. Private clubs set their own rules.
