Ten red clay courts tucked into Riverside Park along the Hudson River Greenway on Manhattan's Upper West Side — one of the more accessible places to play on clay outside Europe. The courts are open to everyone and draw a loyal following of regulars, so mornings and weekends get busy. A scenic riverside walk and skyline views make it a rewarding spot even between games.

Courts & conditions

Ten outdoor red clay courts, unlit, open daily 7am–8pm during the April–November season (running from April 1 through the Sunday before Thanksgiving). Restrooms are on site, and the Riverside Tennis Association runs adult and junior group lessons, private coaching, and summer camps here.

Good to know

An NYC Parks tennis permit is required to play: $15 for a single one-hour session on any court, or a full-season permit (April–November) at $100 for adults, $20 for seniors, and $10 for youth — IDNYC holders get 10% off. Courts can be booked online or reserved in person, and walk-on play is also available, though wait times can be long, especially in the mornings. Call ahead to check if play is proceeding as scheduled during rain.
