A quiet municipal tennis court tucked into a residential neighborhood in Chofu, Tokyo — reviewers call it a bit of a hidden gem, though the approach through the surrounding streets can be tricky to find on foot. It's a simple, no-frills spot for a low-cost hit, popular with locals for both tennis and soft tennis.

On court

Three independent outdoor courts, each enclosed on all sides by chain-link fencing: two sand-filled artificial turf courts and one clay court. Reviewers describe the turf courts as well-kept, while the clay court can play unevenly (sloping slightly away from the net) and closes after rain. A changing room is on site but there are no coin lockers or showers, and a tap is available beside the office.

Before you go

Register individually with Chofu City before booking a court. When you arrive to use your reserved court, show your user card and pay at the management office. Rates differ for city residents and non-residents; clay courts cost less than artificial-turf courts. Free parking is limited to one car per court.
