Tucked into a quiet fold of Griffith Park, Vermont Canyon offers twelve public hard courts on two levels, surrounded by hills and hiking trails - an easy escape from the city grid for a match or a hike before or after. It's a longtime local favorite for its scenery and the quality of play, though its hidden setting means it can be tricky to find the first time.

Courts & conditions

Twelve outdoor hard courts, unlighted, so play ends at sundown. Courts are pay-and-reserve, and one reviewer notes they were recently resurfaced.

Good to know

Reserve and pay online in advance via the L.A. Parks website - weekday courts fill up, and weekends are very busy. Parking is limited to about 20 dedicated spots, and can be crowded by hikers using the nearby trails. Private and group lessons are available through certified teaching professionals on site.
