No booking and no payment needed. The Taipei City Department of Sports runs the city's riverside-park tennis courts, and anyone can walk on and play for free. Courts are first come, first served and shared in turns. If you want to be sure of a court, you can reserve one. Reserving is optional and paid. Some courts are open for online booking at NT$140 per court per hour, and lights cost another NT$80 per court per hour when your slot covers the night session. Any part of an hour counts as a full hour. Apply and pay at least 10 days before the day you play. You need a member account on the Department's venue booking system (vbs.sports.gov.taipei). Registration asks for personal details that match a national ID card or a passport, and a personal account uses an email address. The system sends an SMS verification code to confirm an application, and the Department must approve the order before you can use the court. The official pages we read do not say whether a mobile number from outside Taiwan receives that code, so ask the Department first if you need to know. Courts that are not open for booking can only be used by walking on and taking turns, and commercial use is banned there. Which courts are bookable differs from park to park, so check each venue's own page.
