About the venue

A public tennis facility in Central Park, San Mateo, offering free walk-up play for locals and visitors alike. Six courts sit under tree cover, with free first-come, first-served play.

On court

Six outdoor courts, all lit for evening play. Two of the six carry added pickleball lines for shared use, leaving four courts tennis-only. The courts are well maintained, with windscreens on the fences and some tree coverage for shade.

Before you go

Courts are free and open first-come, first-served, with no reservations. The city also runs paid group and private lessons here, and separate exclusive-use rentals can be arranged through the city's Ballfields permit process. Restrooms and a water fountain are nearby, with parking in the garage underneath (about $0.75). Note: courts sit above a parking garage, so some players notice a faint resonance underfoot. TennisSF recommends arriving before 09:00 on weekends and reports possible waits of one to two hours later.
