Public tennis courts on Roosevelt Island, run by RIOC, with views across the East River to Long Island City. Serious local players make up much of the crowd, and reservations are free through RIOC's online booking system — one of the best-value places to play tennis in New York City.

Courts & conditions

The Octagon has 6 courts, open seven days a week from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM, April through November (closed for winter). Evening lighting is available for night play, though corners of the courts can stay damp for a while after rain.

Good to know

Reservations are required and made online (up to two days in advance) via RIOC's Civic Permits system, on a first-come, first-served basis for one-hour slots. Play is free, but you'll need to register online before booking a court.
